As we ease into warmer weather (okay, let’s be real, we were thrown into it) and all of the pool parties, beach days, and sunburns that come with it, there’s one thing we can’t quite imagine getting through summer without: watermelon. Not only is the summery fruit the sweetest and juiciest treat of the season, but it’s also been having quite the moment in Korean beauty, finding its way into all kinds of perfect-for-summer masks, scrubs, and serums.
As its name suggests, watermelon is packed with hydrating power; it’s about 92% water, after all, and that high water content makes the fruit a pretty skin-friendly ingredient for most skin types. Watermelon also helps to prevent aging, as antioxidants such as lycopene and vitamins C and A combat free radicals. Vitamin A also reduces pore size and oil production. Last, but certainly not least, skin care specialist and facialist Su-Man says that the amino acid citrulline, also present in watermelon, “improves blood circulation and works as a natural exfoliator, while lycopene, a phytonutrient, is an anti-inflammatory,” according to an interview with Refinery29.
We’ve rounded up some of the very best watermelon skin care products out there, so whether you’re looking for an effective exfoliator or a silky serum, we’ve got you covered.
